Classic Italian Lasagna

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 0.75 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano

    Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)

    Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions, drain and set aside

    In a large skillet, brown ground beef and sausage over medium-high heat, breaking into pieces

    Add onion and garlic, cook until onion is translucent

    Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes

    In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, half the mozzarella, half the Parmesan, basil, and oregano

    Spread 1 cup meat sauce in bottom of 9x13 inch baking dish

    Layer 4 noodles, half the ricotta mixture, 1/3 of remaining sauce

    Repeat layers, top with remaining noodles, sauce, and cheeses

    Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes, remove foil and bake 25 more minutes until bubbly

    Let rest 15 minutes before serving
